The better algorithm
People listen to music online , and often we hear they always hear the same songs over and over again. I’ve heard from people for years who want to find new music, to them it’s Freedom. We hear the expression “GateKeeping” Past around a lot when we talk about something related to culture. Even it’s hard to find , people keep it secret , they covet because it’s rare to find, they don’t want it to become mainstream , or god forbid the artist sells out.
It’s a resource of culture , as all people do , we protect our resources
The truth is many people find art through connection with their friends, or from finding people going to concerts and events. This is a great way , however it’s always local. People often end up listening to the same music over and over again online. Passing around people they “discover” with algorithms. Some just shake their heads and laugh , they believe there’s nothing we can do about it it looms over us.
And AI is making it worse. It would be cool if it was that cool friend who always had new music , and culture to share, but it seems it’s tapped into feeds from reddit , yikes. the worst place to discover you’re asking algorithm fed people suggestions for music? we all want to break free from the algorithms
I will ask you a question, if nothing changed and you still had artist releases the same as you’ve seen , letting the algorithms decide what you listen to , and you went the next year barely discovering anyone new would you be okay? or do you need an escape?
Artists online are losing income fast because instead of music sales they are missing out on, opportunities to become an independent artist nowadays are rare , fame is rare, well not exactly..
the internet overlords are greedy.
people are famous and broke , welcome to the broke and famous ( new reality show coming soon :)
how on earth can artists who break free from the grind, and reach people knowing them , now have millions of views on their work , and only get pennies for it ?
